The Monastery of Saint Simon is a massive church built in the 1970s for Cairo’s Zabbaleen community. One of the biggest Christian churches in the Middle East, the monastery can seat a whopping 20,000 people in the central cavern alone.

Other nearby caves have been excavated to create an interconnecting complex of churches and public areas that include schools, an education centre and kindergarten.
