To show their solidarity in light of the terrorist attacks in Brussels, Uber painted their app’s car icons with the Belgian flag.
The car icons are usually black or grey, but now come in Belgium’s red, yellow, and black. The update seems to be applicable only in Europe.
More importantly, the company switched off its surge charge during the crisis. This allowed people to hail a ride without having to pay the extra fare.
Uber was criticised back in 2014 during the Sydney hostage situation, wherein prices surged up to four times the usual rate.
