If you were told to imagine a biker, you’d likely picture someone tough, scary, and with a penchant for getting into bar fights. The last thing you’d probably think of is someone who’s gay. But there is such a sub-culture.
In 1967, photographer Sylvan Rand hung out with a group of gay bikers as they headed up to a farm to unwind for the weekend.
Rand documented the festivities, which included eating, drinking, swimming, lots of lying down, and going on motorcycle runs.
In the end, he realised that although the stereotypical image of bikers was defined by the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, these guys were ordinary people – just like you and me.
