South African artist brings awareness to trophy hunting with these dramatic photos

South African Ralph Ziman’s brand new solo exhibition, called Bones, features a series of photographs and sculptures responding to the current state of trophy hunting in the photographer’s home country.

Not only are animals such as lions, rhinos and giraffes being hunted in South Africa by wealthy foreign nationals, they are also being killed by locals to use for medicine, which is bought and sold at Voodoo marketplaces.

The skeletons in Bones are representations of the animals who have been killed. Created out of resin casts, Ziman adorned each piece with colourful beads, which required the help of five men and over 36 kilograms of beads to complete.
