Three men were rescued from a Pacific Island by the US Coast Guard after constructing a giant ‘help’ sign on the beach.
Three days earlier the men had left the island of Pulap on their 19-foot skiff; getting themselves into the sticky situation when their boat was overcome by rough seas. They wound up on the uninhabited Fanadik Island, which lies approximately 4180 kilometres southwest of Honolulu.
Luckily, the US Coast Guard were able to locate the men – with Coast Guard spokesman Lt. William White saying that it was actually smoke from a fire that the men had lit which led to their rescue.
