How far would you travel to see your BFF? For a penguin living in the Patagonia coasts of Chile and Argentina, he swims 8,000km yearly to meet up with his rescuer in Brazil.

Four years ago, 71-year-old Joao Pereira de Souza found a South American Magellanic penguin on the brink of death after being covered in oil. He named it Dindim and helped it recover by cleaning its feathers and feeding it fish. When the bird became strong enough, it eventually left.

Joao didn’t think he’d see his feathered friend again, but a year later, he did.
