Old books are given new life as teacups and saucers

Swedish artist Cecilia Levy gives life to old, unwanted books by turning their pages into sculptures of plates, cups, teapots, and bowls.

Levy rips out specific pages of books published in the last century and pastes them together as papier mache, turning a 2D material into a 3D sculpture. What used to be sentences and paragraphs are now patterns on discoloured, fragile dinnerware.

Her unconventional use of literature might seem like blasphemy to bookworms, but according to Levy, her art preserves the memory of each book. ‘The story lives on, but in a different shape’.
