In celebration of International Women’s Day, Melbourne will replace the red and green man at traffic lights with a female.
The city will be the first in Australia to have a woman as the silhouette on a crossing signal. If you’re wondering whose silhouette that belongs to, it’s of Mary Rogers, the first female elected to local government in Victoria.
‘She was one of the first women to be appointed a Justice of the Peace in Victoria in 1928, and later was a special magistrate at the Children’s Court in Richmond’, said City of Yarra Mayor, Roberto Colanzi.
