When Mrs Kuroki suddenly went blind at the age of 52, her husband made the grandest of gestures: he planted a field of pink flowers to make her smile again.
The Kurokis were married in 1956 and made their life on a dairy farm in Miyazaki prefecture, Japan. They were supposed to travel all over the country in their later years, however after 30 years of marriage Mrs Kuroki lost her vision due to diabetes. She soon became depressed and secluded.
