France’s fairy tale region will give you a major case of travel envy

Alsace, the Germanic region of France, is filled with fairytale-like medieval houses painted all the colours of the rainbow.
There’s history behind the houses, too. Tradition made it so that shops were painted according to what they sold. So bakeries and butchers had their own colours, shoemakers another.
Today though, residents of the region are free to do as they please when it comes to paint choice.
