At first glance, you might think Steve Axford’s photos are of organisms in faraway galaxies. But on closer inspection, you’ll see that this is incredible macro photography of Australian flora and fungi.
Axford’s work covers everything from microfungi to volcanoes, and since he lives in the Northern Rivers area of NSW, he’s spoiled for choice with native plants, animals, birds, and fungi to snap.
Looking at his photos allowed us to appreciate the beauty of the world — even in the smallest of things. So we sat down and spoke with Steve about his photography (and asked for a few sneaky photography tips in the process).
