Australian artist Anna Carey goes back to her childhood by creating miniature cardboard models of motels she saw years ago.
The Gold Coast-based artist grew up admiring the distinctive and colourful architecture of the 1950s and ’60s. She especially loves the dilapidated structures – like houses and motels – slowly coming apart amidst newer buildings.
So in her series entitled ‘Stardust’, Anna builds sculptures of motels solely from memory, then takes photos of her finished work, making it appear life-sized.
